Iowa Research Shows Police Work is Primarily Sedentary

Widely-held perceptions of police work as a high-activity profession are challenged by a new University of Iowa study, which shows that like many other modern-day occupations, policing has become primarily sedentary. The University of Iowa research team, led by Dr. Sandra Ramey, assistant professor of nursing and community and behavioral health, used armbands to monitor physical activity among police officers. Results appear in the March issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
