Iowa Student Paper Wins American Statistical Association Prize

Mr. Yaohui Zeng, a doctoral student in biostatistics in the University of Iowa College of Public Health, has been selected as a winner of this year’s student paper competition sponsored by the American Statistical Association (ASA) Section on Statistical Computing.

Mr. Yaohui’s paper is entitled “The biglasso Package: A Memory- and Computation-Efficient Solver for Lasso Model Fitting with Big Data in R.” The paper is related to Yaohui’s thesis research, and is co-authored with his dissertation advisor, Dr. Patrick Breheny.

Winners of this award receive a $1,000 cash prize and present their work in a session at a national conference.
