The Product Stewardship Society recently announced its first-ever award, the Allan K. Fleeger Distinguished Service Award and this special honor was presented to Mr. Gailen (Gail) A. Hart, adjunct professor of environmental health science in the product stewardship program at the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health – Indianapolis (IUPUI).
The Distinguished Service Award, presented to Mr. Hart at the 2018 Product Stewardship Conference in Washington DC, is named after Mr. Allan Fleeger the Society’s first president. The award recognizes distinguished service by a Society member who has contributed substantially to the growth and success of the Product Stewardship Society and thereby the profession of Product Stewardship.
“Gail is an excellent example of commitment to the field of product stewardship. We are proud to recognize his efforts and applaud him for making a difference in our community to better the profession of product stewardship,” said Mr. Adam Seery, director of the Product Stewardship Society.

Mr. Hart is a giant in the Product Stewardship industry, having spent 38 years with ExxonMobil and rising through the ranks to Executive – Global Product Stewardship Services. Along the way, he has held several product stewardship management positions, as well as a range of chemical plant manufacturing assignments, supervision of mechanical design, new business development and management of export/import operations.
In 2014, Mr. Hart worked with university faculty to provide the foundation for the Master of Science in Product Stewardship at IUPUI. With his extensive industry experience and first-hand knowledge of real-world expectations and challenges, Mr. Hart offers his students a unique opportunity to learn both theory and application.
