The Bailey K. Ashford Medal is awarded by the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene for distinguished work in tropical medicine. The prestigious award, which is presented annually at the ASTMH conference, was bestowed this year to Dr. Margaret N. Kosek, associate professor in international health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Kosek’s work focuses on the epidemiology and impact of enteric infections on child health, the improvement of disease burden estimates in child health, and malaria epidemiology in the Peruvian Amazon.
“The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene is dedicated to science that supports the development and delivery of better treatment on the control of diseases related to poverty,” says Dr. Kosek. “It’s an honor to receive recognition from such an organization.”
