Dr. Arturo Casadevall, Alfred and Jill Sommer Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, was recently named an advisory committee chair at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). The Canadian-based global charitable organization convenes leading researchers and thinkers to address science and humanity’s most important questions.
Dr. Casadevall will chair the Fungal Kingdom: Threats and Opportunities Committee in CIFAR’s Life and Health research area. This area of research explores diverse aspects of the biology of fungi, from their role in causing disease to their essential functions in the biosphere in degrading plant material.
Dr. Casadevall’s research focuses on fungal and bacterial pathogenesis and basic immunology of antibody structure-function. He is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins University with joint appointments in the Bloomberg School and the School of Medicine.Friday Letter Submission, Publish on August 09
