Johns Hopkins Podcast: Mapping a City’s Food Environment

The latest American Health Podcast, created by the Bloomberg American Health Initiative, a project of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, focuses on a food mapping project. In Baltimore, city officials for a number of years have partnered with the Center for a Livable Future (CLF) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to map the city’s food environment. It’s an effort to inform food policy, ensure equitable access to healthy food, and improve the health and quality of life of Baltimore’s residents. In this episode, we take a look at the Baltimore Food Environment Map, and we talk about an effort to replicate the process elsewhere. Ms. Caitlin Misiaszek, a program officer at CLF, is featured.

The Bloomberg American Health Initiative at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health works to tackle some of the most pressing challenges to public health in the United States: addiction and overdose, environmental challenges, obesity and the food system, risks to adolescent health and violence.
