Dr. George Dimopoulos, a professor in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, has been awarded the 2018 Shikani/El Hibri Prize for Discovery & Innovation. The annual prize recognizes excellence in the laboratory sciences and discoveries that have the potential to significantly advance biomedical science and translate into improvements to patient care or the public’s health.
Dr. Dimopoulos is deputy director of the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute (JHMRI), which is based at the Bloomberg School. He is also director of the JHMRI Parasite Core Facility.
Dr. Dimopoulos’s research is broadly focused on the biology of mosquito vector competence for malaria and dengue with a long-term goal of developing novel disease intervention strategies based on blocking the pathogens in the mosquito.
