Kentucky: Journal of Appalachian Health Publishes Inaugural Issue

“Recent research demonstrates that, while there have been improvements in the health of those who live in these hills, there remains a substantial disparity in health status when compared to the nation’s health. This disparity is the result of inequities that exist in the region. We hope to look at those disparities and inequities so that we can better understand the nature of health problems and the positive impact of the programs that address them.”

The first issue of the Journal of Appalachian Health — a new peer-reviewed, open-access journal produced at the University of Kentucky and University of Kentucky College of Public Health — is now available. Dr. F. Douglas Scutchfield is editor-in-chief, and Dr. Erin Haynes is senior associate editor. They are joined by Mr. Robert M. Shapiro II, director of knowledge management, and Ms. Charlotte S. Seidman, managing editor.
