LSU Faculty Member Receives Grant to Study Gene-Gene Interactions for Prostate Cancer Aggressiveness

Dr. Hui-Yi Lin, Associate Professor of Biostatistics at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, School of Public Health in New Orleans serves as the Principal Investigator of a NIH R21 grant, entitled “Gene-Gene Interactions and Their Functional Roles in Prostate Cancer Aggressiveness”. Dr. Lin is collaborating with Drs. Jong Park, Y. Ann Chen and Chia-Ho Cheng at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute. This multidisciplinary team is comprised of biostatistics, molecular epidemiologist, and bioinformatics. This study aims to identify genetic markers (genetic variants and gene expressions) involved with multiple genes associated with prostate cancer aggressiveness. The study findings can provide valuable information toward understanding pathogenesis of prostate cancer and identifying genotype combinations for predicting prostate cancer aggressiveness. The funding amount awarded was $283,620.
