Dr. Hongjie Liu, associate professor in the University of Maryland School of Public Health’s department of epidemiology and biostatistics, was recently appointed as foreign professor at Anhui Medical University (AMU) in China. The award of this honorary title was based on Dr. Liu’s contributions to research collaborations with Anhui Medical University. Dr. Zhi Hu, Deputy President of AMU (in the middle), presented an honorary certificate to Dr. Liu at the appointment ceremony on January 7.
Dr. Liu’s research focuses on social and behavioral aspects of HIV/AIDS and research methodology. His team has conducted 12 HIV-related studies in China and published 60 papers. His recent research has investigated how family and workplace networks influenced the use of condoms by female sex workers aged 35 years and older in China and explored how to reduce HIV stigma in social networks with the goal of improving HIV/AIDS treatment utilization.
