Maryland Receives Grant to Improve Quality of Life for Korean Women with Breast Cancer

Dr. Sunmin Lee, an associate professor of epidemiology and biostatistics in the University of Maryland School of Public Health, received a new NIH (R21) grant to study breast cancer survivorship among underserved Korean American women. “Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Korean women in the United States, and many of these women face emotional and physical difficulties due to the cancer,” Dr. Lee said. “However, existing support group interventions have been developed primarily for English-speaking, non-Hispanic white women. This research project will be one of the first to conduct and examine an intervention specifically developed for Korean women with breast cancer.”
