Michigan Alumnus Receives Filerman Prize for Educational Leadership

The Association of University Programs in Healthcare Administration, AUPHA, has awarded the Gary L. Filerman Prize, so-named for the first president of AUPHA, to University of Michigan SPH alumnus Mr. Peter Butler. Mr. Butler earned his master’s degree in health services administration from The University of Michigan department of health management and policy in 1976, and after working as an executive in a variety of health systems, he became COO of Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, and an associate professor and chairman of the department of health systems management at Rush University, where he is today.

The Filerman Prize is given to recognize individuals who” have made outstanding contributions to the field of health administration education, who have exhibited leadership in the field, and who have enriched their institutions, their students, and health administration education through their work.” Mr. Butler’s work at Rush University and his dedication throughout his career has earned him this recognition for the 2016 AUPHA award cycle.
