Michigan Develops Software to Find Ancestry in Genetic Data

Ancestral background contributes significantly to our likelihood of developing or avoiding certain diseases. However, the ancestral genetic causes of disease are often difficult to ascertain. A new statistical method, developed by researchers at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, can help those who study the human genome better identify ancestry as they isolate the genes that cause disease. The study, led by Dr. Goncalo Abecasis, the Felix E. Moore Collegiate Professor of Biostatistics, is published in Nature Genetics.
