University of Michigan School of Public Health doctoral student Ms. Pamela Pugh Smith (class of 2005) has received the Dr. Montague Cobb Award for special achievement in social justice, health justice, health education and promotion, fund-raising and research. The award was presented in July at the NAACP Convention in Orlando. Ms. Smith volunteers with NAACP branches across Michigan. She spent 14 years at the Saginaw County, MI Department of Public Health, advancing to community health improvement director. In 2011, she stepped down to pursue doctoral studies at University of Michigan School of Public Health. Ms. Smith also holds a MS degree in environmental health sciences from the School of Public Health.
