Michigan: Dr. Kelly Bakulski Receives ALS Association Grant to Study Environment and Genetics

Dr. Kelly Bakulski, assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and Dr. Stephen Goutman, associate director of the University of Michigan ALS Center of Excellence, recently received a grant from the ALS Association to study genetic factors and environmental exposures and how they impact the development and progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

“ALS is a serious neurodegenerative disease that affects many Americans, including in my own family. In this exciting new project sponsored by the ALS Association, we’ll investigate both genetic risk for ALS and personal environmental exposures that may contribute to risk,” said Dr. Bakulski. “This research will allow us to take a much needed step toward personalized prevention for ALS.”
