The award is given annually to an individual who has made the most outstanding scientific contributions relevant to behavioral and social science regarding lung diseases, critical illness or sleep disorders early in his or her career.

“I’m grateful and honored to have received this award,” says Dr. Patel. “I’ve been involved in ATS and the Behavioral Sciences and Health Services Research Assembly since I was a trainee. The opportunities they have provided me have very much shaped by research program, and my ability to contribute to the larger effort in reducing health disparities for those with lung diseases.”

Dr. Patel received the award on May 21 at the Assembly on Behavioral Science and Health Services Research Membership Meeting during the 2017 ATS International Conference in Washington, DC.
