UM’s Center for Sexual Health and Disparities, an organization affiliated with SPH, runs a program called “Relationship Remix” which is a workshop that explores relationships, sex, and consent. A few years ago, students presented the idea of implementing the program at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana.
Through a series of focus groups which delved into the specific sexual health and relationship issues present on the Ghana campus, the Relationship Remix curriculum was adapted to address those particular needs. Adjustments to the program include the addition of an activity meant to challenge myths surrounding rape justification and victim-blaming.
If the program implementation in Ghana is met with success, Relationship Remix facilitators, often SPH students, hope to expand the curriculum further to universities in South Africa as well.
