Michigan Study Finds Insights for Emerging Health Reform Models

A new University of Michigan study, led by Dr. Christy Harris Lemak, associate professor of health management and policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and colleagues from the University of Florida, performed a Medicaid demonstration program analysis for an Affordable Care Act program aimed to reduce health care spending. The researchers found that four years after this program was implemented, the cost of providing care through provider service networks (PSNs) was lower per patient than in counties that were not part of the program, resulting in an overall savings near 18 percent.
