The Stokes Award recognizes lifetime achievement for researchers like Dr. Folsom, who demonstrate excellence in advancing education, research, and the practice of preventive cardiology.

“I’m pleased to be recognized by my peers,” said Dr. Folsom. “Though any success I’ve had has been in large part due to strong collaborations with colleagues at the University of Minnesota and elsewhere, as well as Minnesota students and fellows who have worked with our research projects.”

Dr. Folsom has 35 years of experience exploring the causes of cardiovascular disease and the ways to prevent the disease. Dr. Folsom’s contributions include authoring or coauthoring more than 850 publications and 20 years directing a Minnesota training grant in cardiovascular disease epidemiology and prevention research. He also teaches courses examining the public health aspects of cardiovascular disease.
