New Certified in Public Health Content Outline

In 2014, the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) conducted a Job Tasks Analysis to determine the tasks most often performed by members of the public health workforce. Credentialing accreditation requires the credentialing bodies to base entrance exams on a Job Task Analysis; thus, the NBPHE has been moving towards updating the CPH content outline to directly reflect the results of the Job Task Analysis.

After an extensive process of analyzing the results of the Job Task Analysis and gathering stakeholder feedback, the NBPHE board of directors is pleased to announce the CPH content outline will be updated on January 1, 2019. The new content outline will be organized under 10 domains and will be comprised of 160 unique tasks related to these domains. NBPHE board members are pleased to note the domains and tasks are synergistic with a number of competency and accreditation sets already in use by organizations such as CEPH, PHAB, and the Council of Linkages.

Until January 1, 2019, CPH examinees will be tested using the previous outline. All examinees after January 1, 2019 will be tested using the new content outline.

NBPHE is preparing a number of additional resources to provide guidance to examinees who will be testing under the new content outline. These resources are expected to be available by Spring 2018.
