A Chicago-based team, including a member of the Northwestern Institute for Public Health and Medicine, Dr. Michael Fagen, has been selected to participate in the 2018 National Leadership Academy for the Public’s Health (NLAPH). The team also includes representatives from the Chicago Department of Public Health, Chicago Public Schools, and the Mikva Challenge. The team’s focus in the NLAPH will be on advocating for condom availability throughout the entire Chicago Public Schools system.
The NLAPH began in 2011 to provide training to four-person multi-sector teams from across the country to advance their leadership skills and achieve health equity in their communities. Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the one-year program uses an experiential learning process that includes webinars, a multi-day retreat, coaching support, peer networking, and an applied population health project. NLAPH is currently training its seventh cohort of fellows.
