Northwestern Researchers Seek Parents’ Input in Early Intervention for Children with Autism

Dr. Megan Roberts, faculty at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Programs in Public Health  in Communication Sciences and Disorders, with Dr. Sarah Bauer (Pediatrics) and Dr. Adolfo Ariza (Pediatric Practice Research Group) garnered $757,019 in funding from the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). Project POLKA: Parents Optimizing Language Outcomes for Kids with Autism will be a randomized controlled trial of parent-mediated language interventions for toddlers with autism. The purpose of this project is to customize early intervention strategies based on child and parent characteristics. Pediatric Practice Research Group, a regional practice-based research network between Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and over 50 pediatric practices and 380 medical providers, will be collaborating with participant recruitment.
