Dr. Rumi Chunara was recently recognized for two research papers. She received the NYC Media Lab – Bloomberg Data for Good Exchange (D4GX) Paper Award. Through comparing Foursquare check-ins to obesity statistics in New York City neighborhoods, she and her team found the areas with lower obesity rates tended to have more opportunities for social interactions. Dr. Rumi Chunara also had a paper accepted, along with her PhD student, Ms. Bisakha Ray, at the preeminent machine learning conference, Neural Information Processing Systems’ workshop on machine learning for healthcare. Their paper is called: Integrating Genomic Data in a Community-based Multi-modal Viral Transmission Model for Network Inference. The conference will be in Montreal later this month.
