Dr. Cheryl Merzel, the Director of Educational Advancement and Assessment and a Clinical Associate Professor of Community Health Science and Practice with New York University College of Global Public Health, was recently named editor-in-chief of The Society for Public Health Education’s (SOPHE) peer-reviewed quarterly journal, Pedagogy in Health Promotion: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (PHP).
Dr. Merzel has shown throughout her career that she is dedicated to public health research, evaluation, program development, advocacy, and education. She is additionally committed to improving public health pedagogy through scholarship and innovative teaching practices.
Dr. Merzel states that her vision for PHP is that “it serves an essential resource for promoting pedagogical scholarship and improved teaching practice in health promotion and public health,” and that she hopes “to extend the journal’s focus, visibility, and value by addressing important issues such as diversity in the classroom and educational institutions, and by supporting learning communities dedicated to preparing the next generation of professionals.”
