What inspired you to study public health?

I have always loved health and when I discovered what public health was, I was sold because of the widespread impact I can have on community’s health.

What has been the single most rewarding experience of your career/studies so far?

The most rewarding experience in my studies so far has been the people I have met in my classes that are also passionate about public health. Knowing that together we are going to make a difference in the health of our country makes me very excited.

What is the one piece of advice you wish someone had given you when you were starting out in public health?

I wish someone would have told me that volunteering with public health programs will help you learn more about yourself and what your passionate about in public health.

What do you think is the biggest challenge that the public health field should be focusing on?

The issues facing public health are constantly evolving and we must commit to continuing to educate ourselves to develop the most effective intervention techniques. This is a challenge in itself. But I think currently a large public health issue is drug prevention. Drug use effects all ages in the population and there are many different problems associated, which is what makes it so complicated.
