In a recent Surgeon General’s Perspective in Public Health Reports, U.S. Surgeon General VADM Jerome Adams shares his impressions and thoughts from his visit to US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico in October 2017 to survey recovery efforts following hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. Dr. Adams praises the resiliency and the essential optimism of the people of these islands in the face of formidable hardships, referring to them, using a Spanish word for “resistance,” as a “generation of Resistencia.”
