The November/December 2018 issue of Public Health Reports includes a special supplement entitled From Local Action to National Progress on 5 Major Health Challenges: The Bloomberg American Health Initiative. On Friday, December 7, ASPPH and Public Health Reports will host a webinar to discuss the supplement with guest editor and Dean Ellen J. MacKenzie (Johns Hopkins) and selected authors of the papers.
This supplement envisions how the field of public health can help the United States tackle addiction and overdose, environmental challenges, obesity and the food system, risks to adolescent health, and violence. The supplement includes papers that address each of the five focus areas as well as the cross-cutting themes of equity, policy, and evidence. The supplement is sponsored by the Bloomberg American Health Initiative at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, a new $300 million effort that is seeking collaborators across the country.

The webinar will also include a discussion of public health tools with Dr. Keshia Pollack, professor and a brief summary of the Bloomberg American Health Initiative by vice dean for public health practice and community engagement Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, the initiative’s director.
