Rutgers Biostatistics Chairs Co-Author Op-Ed on How Statistics Save Lives

Rutgers School of Public Health department of biostatistics and epidemiology chair, Dr. Jason Roy, along with Dr. Debashis Ghosh of the Colorado School of Public Health, Dr. Karen Bandeen-Roche of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and other biostatistics department chairs, have co-authored an op-ed in The Hill about how statistics save lives. The Op-Ed is incredibly relevant as we try to understand and mitigate the devastating scope of the forthcoming hurricane season.

“Estimation of the lives lost from hurricanes and other natural disasters provides critically important information that can be used to improve the ways in which resources are allocated in future storms,” comments Dr. Roy. “Confidence in the estimates relies on researchers being fully transparent about the study design and statistical methods, as was the case in the Hurricane Maria analyses.”
