Dr. Hala Madanat was named the San Diego State University 2020 Albert W. Johnson University Research Lecturer. Dr. Madanat is an accomplished researcher, respected mentor and valued University leader. She serves as director of the San Diego State University School of Public Health, a core-investigator of Institute for Behavioral and Community Health, and lead principal investigator of the SDSU/UCSD Cancer Partnership funded by NCI.
Her research on health disparities and obesity prevention has had an invaluable impact on the field of public health. In addition to leading the Cancer Partnership, Dr. Madanat leads the evaluation of several large National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded center grants at the San Diego State University, and has published over 90 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and books. Her research focuses on the impact of westernization on diet and nutrition and she has developed nutrition education programs that emphasize health and biological hunger. As she will discuss in her lecture, her interest has always been research that impacts individuals and communities.
