ASPPH hosted the 2015 Student Leadership Institute on Sunday, November 1, from 7:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. at the Chicago Convention Center, McCormick Place.
Student Leadership Institute: Forty-three students from 26 ASPPH member institutions participated in the 2015 Student Leadership Institute. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Bahby Banks who ran the skill-building and networking opportunity for student leaders at ASPPH-member institutions. The Institute featured a case study analysis, professional advice, leadership exercises and activities.
Inaugural Student Day of Service: Over the past year, Saint Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice and ASPPH have been working on the inaugural “Day of Service,” open to students from public health schools across the nation and around the world.
Seventy students from 26 institutions volunteered with a diverse selection of projects, working with the Ronald McDonald House, the Fourth Presbyterian Church, the Pacific Garden Mission, and the Alliance for the Great Lakes on community development and improvement around the city of Chicago.
Through this, students were provided with the opportunity to actively engage in service to the APHA conference’s host city, further embodying the core mission of public health to improve the health and well being of all.
The Institute and service component were planned by the ASPPH Student Services forum and the Student Recruitment Sub-Committee.
