U.S. Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy, visited the College of Public Health at Ohio State to host a community engagement meeting on his #SGHouseCalls tour of the country Wednesday, February 11.
Vice Admiral Murthy invited Ohio State leadership as well as stakeholders from across central Ohio to join him for a roundtable discussion about key health issues around Columbus and community-based programs that address those challenges.
Many of Ohio’s top concerns were addressed, including tobacco use prevention, cessation, and regulation; infant mortality; reaching minority populations; and framing the discussion in terms of health and wellness rather than disease.
Following the closed stakeholder meeting, Dr. Murthy met with central Ohio media where he fielded questions on public health topics ranging from marijuana to vaccination.
“Please vaccinate your children,” was one of Dr. Murthy’s clear asks while discussing the importance of vaccination for the health of the country.
The Surgeon General selected the College of Public Health as his thirteenth stop on the #SGHouseCalls tour. Read more, including the news coverage on Ohio State’s College of Public Health website.
