Dr. Shannon Butkus, a health services and research doctoral graduate of the Texas A&M School of Public Health, has been named vice president of skilled therapies for UnitedHealth Care’s Community & State Division where she will have oversight of the company’s therapy services program across the country for their Medicaid, CHIP, and dual eligible products.
Dr. Butkus will be working with a team of individuals to develop value-based purchasing strategies for skilled therapy services. She also will be working on network development strategies, prior authorization programs, and the development of national policy around the provision of skilled therapy services.

Trained as a speech pathologist, Dr. Butkus has spent the past several years working on regulatory issues including the provision of benefits, reimbursement rates and value-based purchasing strategies for state Medicaid programs. She has presented around the country to providers on best practices related to coding and billing for speech therapy services.
