Texas A&M Doctoral Student Awarded Best Research Abstract by APHA

Ms. Whitney Garney, research and evaluation associate of the Center for Community Health Development (CCHD) at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Public Health, has been awarded the best doctoral student research abstract by the Community Health Planning and Policy Development section of the American Public Health Association (APHA).

Ms. Garney is receiving this award for her research on “Using Community Health Workers to Increase Awareness about the Affordable Care Act in a Rural Community”. She will be honored at the APHA Annual Meeting in New Orleans on November 15.

Ms. Garney served as principal investigator on the recently completed Geocaching for Exercise and Activity Research (GEAR) study that examined physical activity levels during non-traditional exercise and activities.
