Well over one million Americans, almost all older persons with some level of frailty, reside in assisted living facilities in America. Assisted living was once thought to be a place where those with very mild impairments could live out the remainder of their lives, no matter how their health declined. People were to “age in place.” That place would be home-like, and residents would receive all the services and supports they needed throughout their stay.
