The University at Albany School of Public Health hosted the second annual Health as Social Justice: A PhotoVoice Project gallery and panel discussion as part of the school’s celebration of National Public Health Week 2018. The event is a collaborative project to highlight the work of public health practitioners in the Capital Region of New York State. Staff and members of community organizations, health care organizations, and state and local health departments submitted photographs and brief stories highlighting public health in action. Three winners, selected from the pool of submissions, were invited to participate on the panel discussion and present how their organization or community group uses a social justice approach to improve community health.
Students, faculty and community members attending the gallery viewing have opportunity to share stories of social justice approaches as well as network. The PhotoVoice project supports student involvement and cross discipline collaboration among the school community.
The photos are on displayed at the City of Albany (NY) Public Library for the remainder of month of April.
