UCLA: COVID-19 – Experts Present to the Los Angeles City Health Commission

Channel 35 (City of Los Angeles; March 9) broadcast a special meeting of the city’s Health Commission where UCLA Fielding School of Public Health professors, Dr. Gilbert Gee and Dr. Anne Rimoin presented about the COVID-19 outbreak, including on strategic planning for COVID-19 and social stigma in the context of illness. Both professors were invited to speak before the commission. “Transmission appears to be similar to seasonal influenza, mostly by droplet transmission,” Dr. Rimoin said. “Recent studies, just published today, have suggested travel distance are potentially two times farther than originally anticipated  …. Transmission may be up to 15 feet, and that these respiratory droplets can land on surfaces and survive for several days.”
