UCLA: Professor Awarded $2.3 Million to Unravel Workings of Epigenetic Clock

Scientist and professor of biostatistics at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, Dr. Steve Horvath, has been awarded $2.3 million by the Open Philanthropy Project to pursue a series of experiments aimed at understanding why his epigenetic clock — an algorithm based on several hundred modifications of the human genome — accurately measures age and predicts lifespan.

D. Horvath, also a professor of human genetics in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, shares the funding with two collaborators at the University of Washington and Public Health England.
