The North Carolina Pediatric Society (NCPeds) has announced recipients of its 2015 awards for excellence in the pediatric field. Among the seven awardees are three alumnae of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, one of whom is a faculty member.

The winners are Dr. Anita Farel, clinical professor and associate chair in the Gillings School’s Department of Maternal and Child Health, and department alumnae Dr. Julie Story Byerley (MPH, 1997), and Dr. Elizabeth Cuervo Tilson (MPH, 1999).
Dr. Farel, recipient of NCPeds’ Good For Kids Award, is also a School alumna (DrPH, 1979).
Dr. Byerley, the Denny, Katz, Simon, Tingelstad Academic Service Awardee, is professor of pediatrics and vice dean of the UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Tilson, who received the Steve Shore Service Award, is medical director of Community Care of Wake and Johnston counties.
“We are proud to honor the achievements of these outstanding pediatric health professionals,” said Dr. Debbie Ainsworth, president of NCPeds. “Each of these individuals has made tremendous contributions to help benefit the physical and emotional well-being of our state’s children and adolescents. We applaud their hard work and dedication in helping the children and families in our state.”
The awardees will be honored at a luncheon on August 22, during NCPeds’ annual meeting in Asheville, NC. The meeting will be held August 21-23 at the Omni Grove Park Inn.
