The award recognizes the competence and activities of dietitians who have made distinctive contributions early in their careers to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The NCDA aims to optimize North Carolinians’ health through food and nutrition and empower NCDA members to be the state’s food and nutrition leaders.

“Courtney represents a new breed of nutrition researchers who value the importance of policy makers, such as those in state and national government, in improving child health,” said Dr. Dianne Stanton Ward, professor of nutrition at the Gillings School and Ms. Luecking’s adviser. “She is an emerging leader among nutrition scholars who are translating science into public practice to improve the lives of North Carolinians – and we are proud of her accomplishments.”
