Dr. Harold W. (Bill) Kohl, a professor in the Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics and Environmental Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health, was recently elected nboard chair of the National Physical Activity Plan Alliance. He will hold the position for two years.
The National Physical Activity Plan Alliance is a coalition of national organizations that have come together to ensure that efforts to promote physical activity in the American population will be guided by a comprehensive, evidence-based strategic plan.
Dr. Kohl is the associate regional dean of academic affairs and international affairs at UTHealth School of Public Health in Austin. He is also a professor of kinesiology at the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Kohl served as lead epidemiologist and team leader in the Physical Activity and Health Branch of the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. In 2006 he was tapped to help create the first U.S. Physical Activity Guidelines, which were published in 2008. Since 1984 he has worked in the area of physical activity and health, including conducting research, developing and evaluating intervention programs for adults and children, and developing and advising on policy issues.Friday Letter Submission, Publish on May 24
