UTHealth: Faculty Member Receives $2 million Grant from Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas

University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health assistant professor Dr. Lara Savas, received a $2 million Grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to support delivery of an evidence-based cancer prevention program, Salud en Mis Manos (Health in My Hands), a program that assists Hispanic women 21 and over in the Gulf of Texas with preventing breast and cervical cancer through a free-of charge education session (in-person or over the phone) and identifying low-cost clinics that offer Pap smears, mammograms and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines.

The initiative is also supported by UTHealth School of Public Health co-investigators Dr. Paula Cuccaro, Dr. Maria E. Fernandez and Dr. Melissa Valerio.
