Working with schools to promote healthy eating choices, measuring the impact of menu labeling, and evaluating access to healthy food through farmer’s markets – these are among the many activities carried out by the Center for Public Health Nutrition at the University of Washington School of Public Health. The Center also conducted Washington state’s first statewide survey about policies, practices, and environments on nutrition and physical activity in licensed child-care programs for children ages two to five. A summary report is available online and a full report is expected soon.
The Center seeks to improve nutrition and physical activity through environmental and policy change. It also has been conducting the Seattle Obesity Study II – a longitudinal study on food environment, diet quality, and disparities in obesity. In addition, the Center offers many online toolkits for health and education professionals, including Active Bodies, Active Minds: Minimize Screen Time, Maximize Health.
