WashU Finds Racial Disparities in Medicaid Drug Spending for Abused Children

Medicaid spends less on psychotropic drugs to treat African-American children suspected to be victims of abuse than the program does on White children, according to a new study from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. Researchers linked, for the first time, national Medicaid claims data with data from the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being for children from 36 states who were suspected of having been abused. The results were published online in Child Abuse and Neglect.
