WashU, Iowa Find Medicaid Expansion Would Have Most Benefit in Rural Areas

Expanding Medicaid would benefit a larger proportion of uninsured people in rural areas, according to a new study by a team of public health researchers from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Iowa College of Public Health. The study, led by Dr. Abigail Barker at Washington University, also found that although uninsured rates in both rural and urban areas decline dramatically with age, the uninsured in rural areas are disproportionately older across all income categories.
