WashU Study: How Massachusetts Banned Tobacco Sales in Pharmacies

Youth involvement and community partnerships were key to successful efforts in Massachusetts to ban tobacco sales in pharmacies, according to a new report from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. The efforts began in the early 2000s by Boston-area high school students. As of February, 80 cities and towns in the state had adopted tobacco-free pharmacy policies, eliminating tobacco sales in 505 pharmacies, according to the report by the Center for Public Health Systems Science at the Brown School.
