ASPPH Welcomes New Class of ASPPH/CDC Public Health Fellows

ASPPH welcomes 10 new fellows who will engage in an intensive one-year assignment through the ASPPH/Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Fellowship Program. The Public Health Fellows for 2019-2020 will serve in one of six CDC Centers: the Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology and Laboratory Sciences (CSELS); the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID); the National Center for HIV/AIDS (human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome), Viral Hepatitis, STD (sexually transmitted diseases) and Tuberculosis Prevention (NCHHSTP); the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC); the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD); and, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). In addition, one fellow will be based at the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Global Affairs (DHHS/OGA).

During the fellowship assignment period, the fellows will train under the guidance of public health experts within CDC and DHHS while contributing to a variety of projects that will advance the agencies’ priority areas.  “I chose this fellowship because it sits at the intersection of academic and applied public health,” said new ASPPH/CDC Fellow, Dr. Kendra Wilson.  “I have the opportunity to expand upon and strengthen the knowledge gained during both my didactic and experiential public health education.  In addition, training at the CDC with the support of ASPPH provides a unique experience that will enhance my career currently and in the long term through the development of professional relationships for future collaborations and through the acquisition of specialized public health and professional skills that can be used to excel at any organization.”
